The GoXLR isn't a mystery box — it's four buses, a routing grid, and a profile file. Here's the whole loop, start to finish.
The GoXLR splits every sound source on your PC into four independent buses — Mic, Music, Chat, and System. Each fader controls a bus. Push one up, pull one down, mute the fourth — your stream, your recording, and your headphones can all hear a different mix at the same time.
You don't need a plugin, a virtual cable, or an OBS scene switcher. The mixer routes it for you at the driver level, so the volumes on screen match what your audience hears — even when you tab away.
Open the Mic panel, pick your microphone profile (dynamic, condenser, or the XLR jack), and dial the gain until the meter sits around −12 dB while you talk normally. Turn on the noise gate — the GoXLR gate is fast enough for keyboard clatter and PC fans without clipping your first word.
In Windows sound settings, assign Discord to Chat, Spotify to Music, your game to System, and your browser to whichever bus makes sense. Once assigned, apps remember it — you only do this once per app.
Move the four faders until your own headphones feel right. Then open the Routing tab and uncheck Music → Broadcast if you don't have rights to stream music, or Chat → Broadcast if you don't want Discord in your VOD. The stream mix is now independent of what you hear.
The four illuminated buttons under the faders can hold Cough (push-to-mute the mic), Bleep (a censor tone for live), Effects (toggle the whole FX chain), and Sampler bank swap. Long-press to open the assignment menu — set them once and you'll use them without looking.
Profiles capture faders, routing, FX, lighting and button assignments in a single file. Make one for streaming, one for recording, one for late-night. Switching profiles takes a second and the hardware LEDs update to match.
The little headphone icon on each bus toggles what you monitor. Your audience always hears the Broadcast mix, not yours.
Aim for green with occasional yellow on the mic bus. If the meter hits red, drop the gain by 3 dB — the compressor can't save clipping.
A .goxlr file is under 20 KB. Send it in Discord, drop it in a Git repo, load it on a friend's PC — it just works.

The whole board on one grid. Every input source (Mic, Chat, Music, Game, Console, Line In, System, Samples) is a column; every destination (Headphones, Broadcast Stream Mix, Line Out, Chat Mic, Sampler) is a row. Tick a cell to send that source to that output — untick to cut it. This is how you keep game audio out of your stream, send only chat to Discord, or route your mic to everything at once.
Your mic passes through four stages before anyone hears it. Mic Setup picks the mic type and gain. Gate cuts room noise when you're not talking — raise Amount if you hear keyboard or fans. Equalizer shapes tone: Bass for warmth, Mid for presence, Treble for air. Compressor evens out loud/quiet moments so you sound consistent. De-Esser tames harsh 's' and 't' sounds. Start with defaults, then nudge one slider at a time.
The full level view: every input source (Mic, Chat, Music, Game, Console, Line In, System, Samples) gets its own fader, plus a Bleep slider for the censor button and dedicated outputs for Line Out, Headphones, and Mic Monitor. Slide a source down to duck it in the mix, pull an output down to lower what that listener hears — inputs shape what's captured, outputs shape what's played back. Toggle Submixes to send different levels to your stream vs. your headphones.
